When I do count the clock that tells the time, <\/em><\/p>\n

And see the brave day sunk in hideous night, <\/em><\/p>\n

When I behold the violet past prime, <\/em><\/p>\n

And sable curls all silvered o\u2019er with white; <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

When lofty trees I see barren of leaves, <\/em><\/p>\n

Which erst from heat did canopy the herd, <\/em><\/p>\n

And summer\u2019s green all girded up in sheaves<\/em><\/p>\n

Borne on the bier with white and bristly beard; <\/em><\/p>\n

Then of thy beauty do I question make, <\/em><\/p>\n

That thou among the wastes of time must go, <\/em><\/p>\n

since sweets and beauties do themselves forsake, <\/em><\/p>\n

And die as fast as they see others grow. <\/em><\/p>\n

And nothing \u2018gainst time\u2019s scythe can make defence<\/em><\/p>\n

Save breed to brave him when he takes thee hence.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cuando cuento las horas que el tiempo notifican,<\/p>\n

y observo el d\u00eda alegre hundirse en noche ingrata,<\/p>\n

cuando veo violetas sin su esplendor, marchitas,<\/p>\n

y rizos de azabache cubiertos de albo y plata;<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

cuando veo sin hojas los \u00e1rboles m\u00e1s altos,<\/p>\n

que otrora al reba\u00f1o prestaban sombra franca,<\/p>\n

y aquel verdor de mayo en un f\u00fanebre carro,<\/p>\n

atado en gavillas de hirsuta barba blanca;<\/p>\n

entonces me pregunto tambi\u00e9n por tu belleza,<\/p>\n

que el tiempo ha de llevarse contigo devastada,<\/p>\n

pues toda hermosura de lo que fue se aleja,<\/p>\n

y muere mientras otra madura renovada.<\/p>\n

Contra la hoz del tiempo no hay quien se subleve,<\/p>\n

salvo que un hijo dejes cuando de aqu\u00ed te lleve.<\/p>\n
